HB2006 Electronic Soft-Start Module
The HB2006 electronic soft-start module is developed by the Wuxi Haibei
Microelectronics Research Institute.
The HB2006 is a new-type electronic module used for preventing electro-magnetic interference and voltage fluctuation caused by the starting of high power single-phase series motors in various household electrical appliances (such as electrical tools, vacuum cleaners and washing machines). It is also applied to the soft-starting of the streetlights, which would increase the service life of the bulbs by a factor of ten.
The HB2006 consists of a -19 V voltage regulator, a protection circuit, an ASIC for soft start and phase control, and a sample-hold unit. A 230 V AC voltage is applied to the motor on one terminal, and to the voltage regulator on the other terminal to provide power for various functions through the voltage regulator. At the moment the motor is started, the sample-hold unit detects the phase angle of the gate of the TRIAC, and the soft-start unit outputs a control pulse, slowly starting from 0 V, to the gate of the TRIAC through the phase control unit, to change the flow angle of the TRIAC. SO the voltage across the two terminals of the motor will be slowly increased from 0 V to 230 V. The soft-start time is 1.5 to 2.0 seconds. Because of the soft-start, the motor start current is significantly reduced, the voltage fluctuation is remarkably decreased, and the magnitude of high-order harmonic waves is also reduced. So the electromagnetic interference immunity of the house-hold electrical appliances can be greatly improved.

The HB2006 features:

1. Micro-power devices are employed in the module. So the transient current when the module is started is  100 mA. After the motor is started, the module's total current is  20 mA.

2. Except for the TRIAC, temperature rise by the module is negligible. Since the voltage drop of the TRIAC is  5 V after the module is started, the temperature rise is small on the heat sink. So the module has excellent thermal stability and reliability. The only care that should be taken of is that the module be installed where it is well ventilated.

3. The HB2006 is SMT mounted. Different modules show little difference in the electrical characteristics. They exhibit excellent soft-start performances.

4. The module is small in size. Since it is encapsulated with high-performance fire retarded epoxy resin, it is well protected from humidity, shock and vibration.

The HB2006 has two types, either with or without speed adjustment capability. Three voltages are available: 110 V, 230 V and 240 V. The power range is 1200 to 2500 W. It is suitable for single phase motors.

The HB2006 with speed adjustment capability is connected to a potentiometer through a socket on the module. The start speed can be adjusted by adjusting the potentiometer. The soft-start time constant is fixed at any set-point speed. For the speed adjustable soft-start module, both the initial and maximum speed can be set according to the user's requirement.
